Visual Inspection and Evaluation Training Course

This three day (24 hrs.) course provides basic knowledge of the principles of direct and remote visual inspection and examination.  Emphasis is placed on weldments with additional information on corrosion, valve inspection and the steel making process.  The specific requirements of codes and specifications, including acceptance criteria are discussed in detail.  This course is practical in nature, utilizes classroom participation, and allows for hands on application and exercise on illumination and review of welding symbols.

Course Objectives

This course will:

  • Provide classroom training hours for both Level I and II certification in accordance with SNT-TC-1A and ANSI/ASNT CP-189 requirements.

  • Provide hands on training with specific visual inspection tools.

  • Prepare the candidate for Level I and II examinations.

  • Discuss and apply code and standards acceptance criteria.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for NDT technicians, welding inspectors, auditors, supervisors, managers, engineers, quality assurance/quality control personnel, and others who desire to improve their skills in this area.

All attendees will be provided with relative technical notes and associated reference materials.

Course Program

DAY 1
8:00am-4:30pm

Introduction to Basic Visual Principles and Equipment

  • General principles of visual inspection and examination

  • Visual tools: micrometer, vernier, gauges, HiLo, pit, weld institute, WVAC, fillet gauges, surface finish, flashlight

  • Inverse square law

  • Lighting exercise

DAY 2
8:00am-4:30pm

  • Visual procedure requirements

  • Steel making

  • Remote visual

  • Quality of radiographs

  • Weld symbols (AWS 2.4)

  • Quiz on weld symbols

  • Codes and standards

  • Acceptance and rejection criteria

  • Welding symbols (AWS D2.4)

  • Visual tools

  • Manometer exercise and reading techniques

  • Valve inspection

  • Corrosion

  • Joint checks

DAY 3
8:00am-4:30pm

Final Examination

  • Procedure Review

  • Specific written examination

  • Review of specific examination

  • General written examination

  • Review of general examination

  • Open discussion

Certificate of Completion

Certificates are given to all participants upon satisfactory completion of course.

Payment

Payment by check, money order or cash is due in full prior to the start of the course.

Cancellations/substitutions

  • Cancellations made in writing and received between 5 to 15 working days prior to course will be refunded less $50 handling fee.

  • Cancellations received thereafter will not be refunded, and the full invoice fee will be payable regardless of whether or not you attend.

  • Substitutions may be made at any time.

  • Confirmation will be made in writing as soon as possible upon receipt of payment.  This confirmation will be sent to the address given on the registration form, unless otherwise indicated.

  • The organizers reserve the right to cancel any course due to insufficient enrollment.  In this event, fees will be refunded in full.  However, the organizers assume no liability for travel or any expenses other than fees paid.

Tax Deduction

An income tax deduction is allowed for educational expenses (registration fees and cost of travel, meals and lodging) undertaken to 1) maintain or improve skills required in ones employment or other trade of business, or 2) meet express requirements of an employer or law imposed as a condition to retention of employment, job status or rate of compensation.
